Will export the best batch of rice to Europe at high prices next week

Minister, Chairman of VPCP Mai Tien Dung said, next week Vietnam will export the first batch of rice, the best type of rice to the European market at high prices.

Speaking at the monthly Government Press Conference in August 2020 taking place on the evening of September 4, Minister, Chairman of the Government Office (VPCP) Mai Tien Dung affirmed that agriculture continues to be the foundation for the economy. , can keep the growth momentum in 2020 at 2.6-2.8%.

Mr. Mai Tien Dung said that agricultural exports this year alone strive to be higher than last year with about 41 billion USD. "Next week will export the first batch of rice, the most delicious rice to the European market with high prices. This is considered a potential market", said Government spokesman Mai Tien Dung.

Currently, rice exports to Europe are starting to benefit from prices. The EVFTA Agreement, which officially took effect from August 1, 2020, has created positive effects as well as positive results for Vietnam's rice exports in the European market.

ST20 rice is being sold for over USD 1,000 / ton and Jasmine rice for over USD 600 / ton; while in the past, ST20 rice was only 800 USD / ton while Jasmine was 520 USD / ton. When the tax rate drops to 0%, the retail price of Vietnamese rice will decrease, creating conditions to improve the competitiveness of Vietnamese rice in the European market with other rice exporting countries.

According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, currently, Vietnam's rice exports to Europe are still low, reaching about 20,000 tons, worth $ 10.7 million in 2019, while rice consumption is medium average of Europe in about 2.5 million tons / year in the period of 2016 - 2020./.
