Drought in the Mekong Delta has exceeded its record term in 2016

Drought in the Mekong Delta has exceeded its record term in 2016

Salt infiltration is threatening the Mekong Delta. In which 5 provinces are Ben Tre, Tien Giang, Kien Giang, Ca Mau and Long An have been issued disaster emergencies. This is a hot issue on the face of this week especially when the drought strikes right at the peak of the Government and the people of this land are working hard to concentrate on the COVID-19 epidemic.

This year's salty infiltration is said to be violently unprecedented in history. If due time, salty year 2016, first saline to the CAI Cui port (Can tho)-the way Tran Trang Beach (Soc Trang) over 100km, the provinces of Ben Tre, Vinh Long salt water to the center of the capital, the term, salty years 2020 the situation much aggravated. The largest rice bowl in the country is facing a big challenge.

In Tien Giang, the capital of the fruit trees of the Mekong Delta, tens of thousands of hectares of crops have been lacking severe water. In Kien Giang, saline intrusion is deeper and more intense than many years ago. Similarly, the Highlands are also facing heavy term. Although it was only started in the dry season but a series of lakes, dams in the Highlands were exhausted. Over the past few months the Highlands have no rain so the water on the major rivers such as Krong Ana, Krong Búk is deficient from 50-70% compared to the average many years.

According to the labor sheet, only 2 provinces of Gia Lai and Dak Lak, although they are approaching 1,000 irrigation works but if it continues to rain and the administration does not have interventions, it will be difficult to "save" thousands of hectares of flowers when the drought season enters the peak... Most likely hundreds, even thousand hectares of coffee, rubber, pepper... Will wither dry.

Before the drought forecast this year will be more complicated in 2016, from mid-last year, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked to implement the solutions of the anti-term, salty. Due to the early cultivation of the East Spring, the crop structure conversion should have reached 93% of Dong Xuan Rice in the Mekong Delta which has avoided drought and successfully. This results in recognition but cannot be subjective, as there is still not a peak of the deadline. So right from now, the anti-term must be localized in the region determined with the spirit as the COVID-19 press.

In the work at the direction of the anti-drought work in the Mekong Delta, the Prime Minister requires the local to concentrate on solving the shortage of living water. The Prime Minister has also agreed to pay for five provinces that have published an emergency situation of 70 billion dong to respond to drought, salty conditions.

According to the labourers, many localities in the Mekong Delta are urgently doing all the way to bring fresh water to the people. Kien Giang Province will carry out the cleaning of well-available drilling wells while upgrading the system of water supply stations in the islands to ensure the ability to supply fresh water to the population. Tien Giang has unified the method of supplying 30 thousand m3 of water to rescue the durian tree.

The Mekong Delta enters increasingly complex, unusual. And do not sit the bunch of hands, the people and many local governments have actively adaptation by converting the crop structure. This has contributed to minimizing the damage.

The drought status is predicted to be exacerbated in the coming days. So the transition of the inheritance continues to be an issue in the Mekong Delta. In fact, the question of "planting what, raising a child?" was in the ring until it was determined that the rice model-the new shrimp effectively took many years of opportunity. The inaccuracy of recognition is from within the difficult context, so that there will be more accurate and timely policies.
