Dai Thom 8 Fragrant Rice | Rising Star of Vietnam’s Mekong Delta – Cam Rice

Dai Thom 8 Fragrant Rice | Rising Star of Vietnam’s Mekong Delta – Cam Rice

Good salinity tolerance, high yield, quality, suitable for export ..., the variety of Dai Thom 8 rice like "umbrella horse" creates smell for export rice production in the Mekong Delta.

High rate is, good school
In 2017, Dai Thom 8 rice variety of Southern Seed Corporation (SSC), a member of Vinaseed, was recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and put into mass production in the Mekong Delta.

Dai Thom 8 is also an exclusive rice variety and is granted the certificate of copyright and intellectual property rights of SSC by the Department of Crop Production. On March 9, 2018, the Department of General Production in 2017 assessed that the variety of Dai Thom 8 rice was widely grown and rapidly developed in the Mekong Delta. In 2020 alone, Dai Thom 8 rice accounts for 26% of the country's rice export output.

It can be said that until this time, Dai Thom 8 is one of the rice varieties highly appreciated by the Mekong Delta farmers. By the advantages of the variety Dai Thom 8 are hard, less fallen, produce products, cotton has many seeds, low rate, resistant to blast, and burden.

Mr. Ylyas of Chau Phong commune, Tan Chau town, An Giang province assessed that: Dai Thom 8 is resistant to diseases, especially blast disease. All farmer's investments in this same will mitigate and reduce costs. Therefore, he himself is very fond of being like Dai Thom 8 because of low investment and high profit.

Besides, this is also a similar one with high yield, about 7 tons / ha. Mr. Tran Truc Giang in Vinh Chau commune, Chau Doc city, An Giang province shared: "Dai Thom 8 variety is very high yield, everyone likes it to the market, and also likes it. ton / ha. In winter-spring crop, about 9 tons is very high ".

In addition to high yield, another advantage of Dai Thom is trusted by many farmers in the Mekong Delta, because this is a high quality rice variety, so it is favored by the market, and traders buy at high prices. In terms of rice grain quality, Dai Thom 8 produces elongated rice grains, low silver-belly ratio, cooked on white, glossy, flexible, and delicious rice ...

In the Mekong Delta, Dai Thom 8 is very popular with many farmers because its market is very optimistic. Mr. Nguyen Van Nhut, Director of Hoang Minh Nhat Joint Stock Company in Thoi Lai District (Can Tho City), an enterprise with more than 20 years of experience in rice farming, evaluated that Dai Thom 8 is very good quality. fragrant rice, color, grain uniformity ... very good. Currently, Dai Thom 8 rice is being exported by this enterprise in East Asia and Middle East markets ...

Salinity tolerance close to 4 ‰
In the summer-autumn crop 2021, in the Mekong Delta, it is predicted that fresh water shortage and saline intrusion take place in some areas. In areas prone to this type of natural disaster, the use of salt-tolerant rice varieties is always the top priority for farmers.

Currently, according to a trial by Vinarice, the variety of Dai Thom 8 rice can withstand salinity exceeding the threshold of 3, nearly 4. Therefore, this is considered one of the rice varieties with low risk compared to other varieties of the same type in the context of natural disasters, lack of fresh water, and salt water intrusion.

Mr. Bui Quang Son, General Director of Vinarice said: The company has recommended farmers to use Dai Thom 8 variety about some characteristics related to the salinity tolerance of this variety.

Specifically, in the previous years, the summer-autumn crop (2016) in Tan Tru district, Thu Thua (Long An), Go Cong (Tien Giang) and some localities of Tra Vinh, through comparison of salinity tolerance of Dai. Fragrant 8 with OM5451 and OM4900 varieties, these two OM strains died in the period 45-60 days, at that time the salinity was very high. Meanwhile, Dai Thom 8 is still salt tolerant.

"Through testing in the laboratory, we took the salinity at 4 and found that Dai Thom 8 still tolerates well", Mr. Son said.

According to Mr. Son, the company also experimented with Dai Thom 8 in the area of Tran De (Soc Trang) and Bac Lieu salinity, thereby showing similar results for salinity tolerance. Therefore, according to the forecast at the beginning of March 2021, due to the warning of lack of fresh water and salinity in the area of Long An, Tien Giang ..., the company also advised farmers to pay attention to the variety of Dai Thom 8 because of its salt tolerance and stable productivity.

According to Mr. Ngo Thanh Hong, Deputy General Director of Ben Tre Food Joint Stock Company: In Ben Tre, the feature of a large field located in Thanh Phu, farmers grow rice and raise shrimp. Dai Thom 8 rice showed higher salinity tolerance than expected in the rice-shrimp areas. Compared with some other rice varieties, Dai Thom 8 also has higher yield, quality, and deliciousness.

Mr. Hong recommends: During the cultivation of Dai Thom 8, in the rainy season, people need to sparse sowing less than 150kg / ha. In addition, it is necessary to reduce the amount of nitrogen, increase potassium in the second fertilization, at the time of flowering, it is necessary to fully fertilize nitrogen and potassium.

Besides, it should be noted seed blight After the rice is almost evenly sown, farmers can spray to prevent bacteria, Dai Thom 8 gives very high yield, yellow cotton, bright, and disease-free. "In recent years, many people did not pay attention to this issue, so in the rainy season, there were people who planted Dai Thom 8 with good results, but some people did not achieve the desired yield and quality", Mr. Hong shared.

Launch of many promising rice varieties
From February 24 to March 2, 2021, about 2,500 farmers in the Mekong Delta provinces visited and assessed the new rice variety of Vietnam Rice Company Limited (Vinarice).

In the demonstration model, farmers were able to visit nearly 20 rice varieties researched and tested by Vinarice (a member of the Vietnam National Seed Group - Vinaseed). In particular, many rice varieties are highly appreciated such as: VNR 20, VNR 95, Thien Chau 16 ...

Typically, the rice variety VNR 20 has a growth time of 95-100 days, the plant is tall and sturdy, resistant to pests and diseases, adaptive to large areas, have good branching, high yield from 8-9 tons / ha.

The rice variety VNR 95 has a growth time of 95-100 days, the plant is tall, sturdy, resistant to pests and diseases such as blast, leaf blight, blight, good branching, high yield from 7-8 tons / ha. . The rice grain is long, the quality of the rice is sticky and has a delicious taste.

Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc from (Tan Hiep district, Kien Giang) commented: VNR 95 is a high-yield variety, good rice, tall tree, hard tree, not falling, very suitable in Tan Hiep district, especially. Resistant to flooding in rice crop 3 due to the tall and hard tree.

Mr. Bui Quang Son, General Director of Vietnam Rice Company Limited (Vinarice) said: Thien Chau 16 rice has a growth time of 95-100 days, high yield spikelet (higher than OM5451 from 10- 15%).

Regarding the market of promising rice varieties, the rice seed business units in the Ca Mau peninsula have been put into production with a large area. Especially in Nga Nam, Bac Lieu, Kien Giang, the VNR 20 rice variety is very resistant to alum. Productivity is more than OM18 by 10-15%, compared with the same farmer.

Specifically, on February 26, the company checked the yield of some farmers' fields in Cai Be (Tien Giang), showing that VNR 20 rice variety reached 9.6 tons / ha. Farmers around the assessment of VNR 20 rice higher than other varieties about 1 ton / ha. When milling, the rice yield is quite high at 62% of head rice, which is a quite positive signal for the VNR 20 variety.
