The European Commission (EC) on July 15 published and clarified the method of managing import quotas on some agricultural products and rice of Vietnam, as agreed by the Free Trade Agreement. between Vietnam and the European Union (EVFTA).
According to the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Brussels, EVFTA is expected to officially take effect from August 1 and under this agreement, agricultural products, especially Vietnamese rice, will be exempt from import tax on the EU. However, these items have annual import quotas.
Particularly for rice, the EC has issued a separate regulation and with an annual limit of 80,000 tons, including 20,000 tons of unmilled rice, 30,000 tons of milled rice and 30,000 tons of fragrant rice.
To ensure consumption and avoid stagnation of rice in the market, the EC has set specific import quotas for each type of rice for each period of the year as follows:
Rice has not been milled from 1-1 to 31-3 is 10,000 tons; from 1-4 to 30-6 is 5,000 tons; from 1-7 to 30-9 is 5,000 tons. 15,000 tons of milled rice from 15 to 31 March; from 1-4 to 30-6 is 7,500 tons; 1-7 to 30-9 is 7,500 tons.
Aromatic rice from 1-1 to 31-3 is 15,000 tons; from 1-4 to 30-6 is 7,500 tons; 1-7 to 30-9 is 7,500 tons
