Revenue from rice exports in Cambodia is rising

On July 2, the Fresh News Cambodia news site, citing the Cambodian Rice Association (CRF), said that in the first half of 2020, Cambodia earned more than $ 264 million thanks to the export of 397,660 tons of rice, an increase of 41% over the same period. 2019 year period.

 

China is Cambodia's main rice import market, accounting for 37% of total rice export, equivalent to about 147,949 tons. The European Union and the UK are Cambodia's second largest rice import market, accounting for 34%, reaching 135,576 tons.

Besides, Cambodia also exports rice to ASEAN countries market of about 52,987 tons, accounting for 13% of the total rice export of Cambodia. Malaysia is the largest ASEAN country importing Cambodian rice with about 21,904 tons. Other markets account for the remaining 16%, or 61,148 tons, mainly exported to Gabon and Australia.

Among Cambodian rice exports, fragrant rice accounted for 77% of the total volume, about 306,786 tons, up 33% over the same period in 2019. Especially, white rice and other rice accounted for 23% of total export turnover. , an increase of nearly 80% over the same period in 2019, due to high demand for these types of rice in the context of COVID-19 epidemic.

In June 2020 alone, the total revenue of Cambodian rice exports is about US $ 23.7 million. In particular, Cambodia exported 13,566 tons of rice to the EU market, 11,124 tons of rice to China and 16,873 tons to ASEAN and other markets.

Average export price of rice delivered at the port for high-class fragrant rice of Cambodia is about 900 USD / ton, fragrant rice price at 760 USD / ton, while the price of white rice (soft cooked) is 520 USD / ton.
